Karla Nixon is a Durban based artist who predominantly works with paper. She hand cuts and sculpts intricate, images drawn from her surrounding environment. Nixon completed her degree in Fine Art in 2012 at the Durban University of Technology, South Africa. Her degree focused on paper cutting as a contemporary art form, which she completed with Cum Laude. During her studies she received a number of awards and scholarships, namely the Sam Newton Trophy, the Deans Merit award, an NRF scholarship. She completed a Masters Degree in Fine Art, with Cum Laude, at DUT in 2017, which the exhibition titled ‘Once More’ was partial fulfillment for.  She has participated in a number of group shows in Durban, Johannesburg and Cape Town. Nixon was also awarded an Artist residency in Breman Germany in 2017-18.
